Italian American Democratic Leadership Council Endorses Councilman Domenic Recchia for U.S. House of Representatives in New York’s 11th Congressional District

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council (IADLC), the voice of Italian Americans in the Democratic Party, endorses Councilman Domenic Recchia for Congress in New York’s 11th District.

Domenic Recchia is a second-generation Italian-American on his father’s side and third-generation Italian-American on his mother’s side. His maternal great-grandmother was from Palermo, Sicily, and his paternal grandfather emigrated from a small town outside of Naples. He has demonstrated a strong commitment to his heritage throughout his work in public service. Domenic helped build the Federation of Italian-American Organization to build the first Italian-American cultural community center in New York City, “Il Centro,” located in Brooklyn and projected to open fall 2013. As the Chairman of the Finance Committee for New York City, he secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds to help the efforts of Italian-American organizations throughout the city.

Domenic Recchia has served as a member of the New York City Council since 2002, representing the 47th District, which includes the areas of Brooklyn, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Coney Island, and Brighton Beach. Prior to serving as Chair of the Finance Committee, Domenic led the Cultural Affairs Committee and worked to maintain New York City’s as one of the top cultural destinations in the world. Prior to being elected to the City Council, Domenic served as a member of Community Board 13, and as a member, vice president, and president of Community School Board 21.  He is also a practicing attorney and founder of the Council for Unity, a group that works to address racial violence and to promote youth empowerment.

The Italian American Democratic Leadership Council is confident that Councilman Recchia will continue his great service to the Italian American community and to all those in the 11th District of New York as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
